Manac Launches a New Line of Aluminum Flatbeds: The Darkwing Series
For many years, the weight of semitrailers has played a significant role in the profitability of companies operating in the trucking industry. In order to help its customer tackle this challenge, Manac launched its first aluminum flatbed ten years ago. In doing so, Manac became the first semitrailer manufacturer to offer a complete line of flatbeds in steel, combo (steel and aluminum) and all-aluminum models. Today, as part of its ongoing efforts to offer products that meet exacting performance and strength requirements, Manac is launching a brand new line of aluminum flatbed trailers: the Darkwing series.
Entirely redesigned, tried and tested, the Darkwing flatbed combines a number of characteristics that will meet user needs in terms of performance, design and maintenance. Convinced of its superior quality and durability, Manac is proud to back this product with a seven-year warranty.
Characteristics
The solidly riveted, three-piece main beam is 27 inches (686 mm) high with a camber of 5 inches (127 mm), producing a concentrated load of 60,000 lb./4 ft. (27,216 kg./1.22 m). In order to keep the number of welds to a strict minimum, Manac has maximized structural strength by opting for a mechanical assembly of accompanying subcomponents, which also acts to streamline maintenance.
The rigid floor structure provides enhanced stability and integrates several cargo retention devices, including aluminum tube side pockets, rub rail spacers, six rows of floor-mounted securement tracks with grab hooks and sliding winches. Each device is certified to a weight of 5,500 lb. (2,495 kg.) and complies with Canadian and U.S. requirements.
The bolted rear bumper, which meets Transport Canada and U.S. Department of Transportation standards, greatly facilitates maintenance. The upper bumper section that houses the rear lights is extremely rugged, allowing for the use of a lift truck with a load capacity of up to 16,000 lb. (7,260 kg.).
Other characteristics of the Darkwing flatbed include a suspension system that was tested to 20,000 jack-knife simulation cycles. In addition, the few steel components found on the flatbed are treated using a high quality painting process. Darkwing flatbeds are available in a wide range of configurations and axle spreads.
Manac is the largest semitrailer manufacturer in Canada and the seventh largest in North America. Since its inception in 1966, the company has manufactured over 100,000 semitrailers, each built with the same durability and reliability standards. Manac operates four plants, which are located in Saint-Georges and Trois-Rivières, in the province of Quebec (Canada), and in Oran and Kennett, in the state of Missouri (United States).
